I'm a Senior Software Engineer at Miro, and before that I built products at IKEA, PassionatePeople, Zoover and Backbase. Outside my day job I'm a Google Developer Expert (GDE), a coach and mentor, and a content creator.
I was born and raised in Egypt 🇪🇬 and have called the Netherlands 🇳🇱 home since 2017. I share it with my wonderful wife 🧕 and our three little ones (👧👦👦).
Public Speaking
Taking something complicated and making it simple is what I enjoy most. Early in my career I worked as a tutor, and public speaking turned out to be the natural next step: it's where that love of explaining things gets to shine.
So far I've spoken at more than 44 events. Most of the talks are recorded, so head to the speaking page to watch them and to see what's coming up.
Publishing
In February 2019 I published my first course, Redux Recipes, a three-hour video course with Packt. It takes you from the fundamentals of Redux to using it well in real projects.
Online Content
Teaching web development, and frontend in particular, is a big part of what I do. Since
2017 I've been publishing free technical videos on YouTube
and on yallacode
(formerly Semicolon), and I write about what I learn here on the blog.
Beyond Code
When I'm not building fast websites or teaching people to code, you'll find me behind a camera 📸, lost in a book 📚, baking and decorating healthy cakes 🍰, or out running 🏃♂️ (eight official races so far).
Countries I've visited
Travelling is another thing I love, whether it's for a conference or simply to explore. So far it has taken me to 16 countries; hover over one to see its name.
